Effet visuel produit par la mise en forme d'un texte, le gris typographique est à première vue non quantifiable. Comment alors, à partir des signes noirs sur fond blanc mesurer sa valeur ? De l'échelle de la lettre à celle du livre, cette étude propose d'analyser scientifiquement la surface occupée par le blanc et le noir d’une lettre afin de mesurer la valeur
du gris typographique.

Essay realised for a research project I worked on during a post diploma called “Graphic systems, typography and language” in Amiens Art school.
We could think that the typographic color is unmeasurable, because it is the global perception of a text on a page. How so is it possible to measure the value of the typographic color? From the scale of the letter to the scale of the book, this study consists in analysing in a scientific way the black and white quantity of a letter in order to measure the value of the typographic color.
